There are many types of dryer vents available today. Most cost under $10 and are manufactured out of aluminum or plastic. There are inherent issues with these vents though. Aluminum plastic and vents vents deteriorate pretty fast in sunlight and weather. Lots of people call us and ask what drier exhaust vents will continue longer than a couple of years. Unfortunately there are no cheap dryer vents that will last in the beating sun or wet climates. However, there are alternatives.
One alternative is aluminum. Copper is a dryer duct cleaning good material for vent services and products. Copper doesn’t rust, but it patinas, or oxidizes over time. Copper turns out of the glistening natural state to a dull red brown for approximately a couple of years. Subsequently as rain and sun hit on the alloy it starts to patina turning into a darker color, then getting stripes of green. 16 ounce aluminum vents can endure upto 30 decades, that is 30 times longer than their cheaper counterparts. There is also hardly any maintenance you need to complete on a copper vent. However drier vents have to be cleaned approximately every half a year. Here’s a great article about how to clean your dryer vent.
Another alternate dryer vent besides aluminum is steel. There are a variety of steel drier vents which range in price from $15 or more. Of the steel versions metal has become the most durable. But, stainless steel may be probably the most resilient to weather and rust. Stainless vents can arrive in different levels of metal. Industry standard for structure is 304 grade stainless steel. We’ve found that this low grade of metal is still prone to rust. Vents made out of 3-16, marine grade stainless steel, which are better at resisting weather and rust.
There are several styles of dryer vents, and a couple diverse ways a dryer can be ventilation to the exterior. The three chief ways a drier can be vented to the surface are either via a wall, a roof, or even a soffit. Adding a drier through a wall or even a roof is often compliant with code.
